As the nature of the workforce is changing, so may be the perception of success. The idea of working from home, or anywhere, is becoming more popular. As long as you have a decent internet connection, you can work anywhere, right? Why not work in Bali for a month or Hawaii?
Travel more, spend more time with family, whatever your motivation, location independent careers and lifestyles are attractive to a lot of people. These location independent jobs and lifestyles require less “stuff” while creating a unique element of independence.
Success is Rich 🤑
Success can, and often is, measured by the amount of money a person or family makes. How many of us are drawn to the lead magnet promising to teach you how to be a “six-figure blogger” in five easy steps? Or the secret way to make thousands a day on Amazon?
Write a book, develop a course, be a coach, build an Etsy store, kill it on YouTube; apparently, there are a ton of ways to make a ton of money online, even millions.
Of course, there are still traditional ways to make fortunes. Start a franchise, climb the company ladder, build a successful business in whatever your talent is, but these lifestyles can look very different on the outside.
Location Independent vs. Location Dependent 📍
Success can be measured by the size of your house, the cost of your neighborhood, the luxury of your car, and how many “toys” you have.
But what about location independent lifestyles? If you truly want to be a nomad, you can’t carry all of that stuff around with you. Success for nomads may be measured by the ability to decide where you will go next and how long you will stay there before moving on.
What is it That Truly Makes You Happy?
I love stories about people that travel all of the time, or regularly, with “normal” incomes. They are not considered wealthy by today’s standards but are living a life they love.
There are plenty of happy, wealthy people too that are living the life the love! But I really enjoy learning how people are living their best life on any income. It brings home that just trudging through a job you hate to make ends meet, doesn’t have to be your future, or your present!
What Would Your Best Day, Week, Month, and Year Look Like?
Take a moment to really answer this question. For example, my best days would be spent on beaches or boats. My best year would include traveling to places I’ve never been along with visiting family and friends around the country. So, building an online business has opened up my life to explore these options.
What can you do to create your best days? Maybe your best year has a really awesome vacation in it. Why wait! Start planning and saving for it today! Whatever you want your life to be – see it, plan it, and do it.
Last Day is Stupid
Living every day like it is your last is impossible. If today really was my last day, I wouldn’t be typing this post or planning for the future! I could spend as much money as I wanted because I wouldn’t need to pay any bills tomorrow 😉
There’s another piece of advice that I like better, live life today like it might be your last day, but plan and save like you’re going to live forever. A little better, but I like the next quote the best.
Your Life is a Book, make it Worthy to Read
I link to think of life as a book with blank pages that I write as I go. I want to live a life that will make that book worthy of reading. I want my book to tell the stories of happy times, big adventures, overcoming struggles, helping others, and hopefully wrap up with a happy ending.
What do you want your book to say?
Focus on your Goal, but Don’t Forget to Enjoy the Present
Whatever your goals are, don’t forget to enjoy the journey. You may not be exactly where you want to be right now, but maybe you’re exactly where you should be right now. Every day, no matter how difficult, will have opportunities to be happy, grateful, and fulfilled. Don’t miss out on those moments.
Define what success looks like to you, and make your life what you want it to be.
